Top 25 NYE Parties

Thanks to Intermix, here's your little black book on where to go AND what to wear on NYE. We all want to jump into the new year with style -- but the question is -- how?

New York City

The Grand

New uptown lounge The Grand has already established its nightlife credentials by hosting the office party to end all office parties: the Vogue, Men’s Vogue, and Teen Vogue holiday fete earlier this month. The stage is set, then, for a glamorous, black-tie time hosted by American Pie’s Sean William Scott, with food by the legendary Philippe Chow.

Tickets: $200-$500, includes dinner and open bar.
41 East 58th Street, 212-308-9455

Maritime Hotel Caffe Bar
The regular Thursday night party at the Maritime Hotel’s Hiro Ballroom, Cheeky B*stard, moves to the hotel’s Caffe Bar for what they call a “rock'n'roll/electro/dance-rock party.” Expect a fun, young crowd of loyal fans and savvy trendsetters dancing the night away to tracks laid down by DJ Ryan McKnight, among others.
9pm–4am. Tickets: $20–$100, includes champagne toast and party favors.

88 9th Avenue, 212-242-4300

Japonais
If the Japanese buffet is blocked by a buffer of shining socialites, fear not: Japonais has you covered with wandering waiters spreading the love with the restaurant's trademark sushi and other hors d’oeuvres. In short, it’s not only the food that will sate your appetite for a casually elegant eve, but it sure kicks the night off right.
Tickets: $175-$300, includes dinner and open bar.

11 East 18th Street, 212-260-2020

The Hudson Hotel
After Christina Aguilera puts on a show for the masses in Times Square, she joins revelers at the Hudson Hotel for a party that spans the designer boutique hotel’s now legendary event spaces, including the intimate and warm Hudson Library and the expansive, tree-lined Outdoor Park.
9pm-4am. Tickets: $175–$275, includes catering, open bar and champagne toast.
356 W 58th Street, 212-554-6000, www.hudsonhotel.com

Miami

Mansion
Formerly the Art Deco-style French Casino of the 1930s, Mansion’s fully renovated digs are roomy and glamorous in the way that only Miami can do it. A regular play date for the likes of Britney and J.Lo, Mansion dubs Wilmer Valderrama as the master of ceremonies for its third annual New Year’s Eve party, featuring performances by DJ AM and Travis Barker.
9pm–5am. Tickets: $250–$6,000, includes open bar and champagne toast.

1235 Washington Avenue, 305-532-1525,
www.mansionmiami.com

Prive @ Opium
James Franco (Spiderman) co-hosts this New Year’s Eve bash with Kristin Cavallari (Laguna Beach), with a stellar soundtrack provided by celebrity DJ Samantha Ronson. A multi-level affair, the party starts in the über exclusive Prive at the top of an open air complex, but once inside, guests have access to the Opium Garden below. While on any other evening the party wouldn’t start ’til after 1am, the countdown to midnight is not to be missed.
9pm–5am. Tickets: $200–$3,500, includes open bar.

136 Collins Avenue, 305-531-5535, www.theopiumgroup.com

The Raleigh
One of the chicest boutique hotels in Miami, with the Raleigh hotelier André Balazs has created a companion to LA’s Chateau Marmont. Past New Year’s celebrations have attracted Playboy Playmates, Olsen twins, actors and models, and this year will undoubtedly deliver equally entertaining guests. Also unique: Performances by Brazilian percussionists and a live projection of the classic ball drop in Times Square.
Tickets: $225–$2,800, includes open bar, champagne toast and party favors.
1775 Collins Avenue, 305-534-6300,
www.raleighhotel.com

The Setai
The stars are out at the expansive Setai hotel, and rightly so. DJ Steve Aoki provides the soundtrack to the luxurious evening in the Setai’s sprawling public spaces. Dress like you mean it and make nice with Jessica Alba or Hilary and Haylie Duff, and they just might invite you to hang poolside at their bungalows.
9pm–4am. Tickets: $300-$6,500, includes open bar and hors d’oeurves.
2001 Collins Avenue, 305-520-6000, www.setai.com

The Shore Club
The Skybar at the Shore Club has a legendary lineup this New Year’s Eve. A slew of hosts give way to such special guests as Q Tip, plus a not-to-be-missed performance by DMC. This is definitely cause for celebration, starting with a stellar fireworks display at midnight. Shore Club does it right.

Tickets: $300.
1901 Collins Avenue, 305-695-3100, www.shoreclub.com

Los Angeles

Carmen Electra’s New Year’s Eve at Paramount Studios
For about the price of a plane ticket to NYC, you can have the classic New Year’s experience minus the chilly temperatures at this expansive party on Paramount’s New York street scene backlot. In the span of about 6 blocks, more than 10 DJs and 15 bands entertain as you roam Little Italy and Chinatown and wind up at 42nd Street’s main stage to watch the Killers ring in 2007.
9pm–4am. Tickets: $125–$1,000.

5555 Melrose Avenue, www.clubzone.com

Giant New Year’s
One of metamorphic places that the sunny SoCal hamlet of Los Angeles flaunts its major city status is in the bright lights of Downtown. This New Year’s Eve, the neighborhood shows off with six stages and five bars that span four city blocks—this is the city of sprawl, after all. Bands include The Black Eyed Peas, Death Cab for Cuti, and The Crystal Method—plus a Ferris Wheel thrown in for good measure.
8pm–4am.Tickets: $75-$115, includes various levels of access into private lounges.

Entry at Hope and 6th streets, www.giantclub.com

Privilege
Danny Masterson of That ’70s Show adds some star power for New Year’s Eve at trendy mega-club Privilege. Masterson’s band performs for an eclectic crowd that will include members of the LA Lakers, LA Clippers and the San Diego Chargers. When star athletes and actors mix, a classic Angeleno eve is bound to be had—and that’s a great thing.
9pm–2am. Tickets $125-$200, includes dinner and champagne toast.

8117 Sunset Boulevard, 323-654-0030

The Renaissance Hollywood Hotel
In the very heart of Hollywood, celebrate as only LA can. The Renaissance Hollywood’s Grand Ballroom promises DJs playing hip-hop and top 40, dance floors on which to show your appreciation and a Vegas-style casino. Poolside, lounge in cabanas and take in the fire and water shows, Cirque du Soleil acrobats and burlesque performances.
8pm-2am. Tickets: $125-$500, includes hors d’oeurves and dinner.

1755 N Highland Avenue, 323-856-1200, www.renaissancehollywood.com

NYE at the Paramount

*The Killers Live in Concert at Paramount Pictures: Hosted by Carmen Electra*

How do you plan to kick off the new year? Remember, the resolutions don't kick in until the 1st so on the 31st, you can live it up however you wish. I envision my NYE outfit to be a little black number. And I think I found just the one at Zara today. It's a very slim fitting black tube dress with subtle silver threads interweaved throughout. Saw alot of satin, glitter, and bows on the hangers. All the retailers are trying to capitalize on and sell the "holiday look". I wasn't so impressed this year. Of course, I'm down to the wire in trying to find that perfect outfit.

I don't have an outfit or a place to go yet but if you're going to be in the LA area, Carmen Electra is throwing a New Years Eve party at the Paramount Pictures Studio. The Killers will be playing live!! They play in my car all the time too. =)

On Myspace

This social networking thing is blowing up.

Visit me on myspace @ www.myspace.com/styleminded.blog and don't forget to add me!

Spotlight on Tim Ou

Let me introduce you to Tim Ou. He's the apprentice to Raul, the head stylist and part owner of Fred Segal Salon, which means he's is privy to styling techniques that take years to innovate and perfect. Basically, he ain't learning the textbook way to cut hair. Raul was in all the hair styling action of LA Fashion Week and both he and Tim were featured on Dr. Phil this season for a makeover session.

Tim is available for appointments three days a week and can be made by e-mailing timou@yahoo.com. & let him know where you came from with a mention of this post. Book early! He accepts tips only. I think of his service as a $400 value (cost of a haircut with the head stylist) so I tip wisely and well.

If you're interested in doing something bold, you can also request to be a hair model, where you can get the latest looks on the fashion scene.

Fred Segal Salon frequented by: Alanis Morrisette, Kate Beckinsale, Renee Rouso, Rita Wilson, Pamela Anderson, Lindsay Lohan, Koju, and more! Mary-Kate Olsen was just visiting the salon yesterday - now, to find those pix taken by the paparazzi.

Gift of Giving

Does anyone actually enjoy holiday shopping? Quite frankly, I like the getting part better. ;) This year, on my gift giving list:
  • Vita Bracelet large - Intermix, $75 - Accessorize your friends celebrity style. This is one of the hottest items of the year. Also comes in a smaller size for $55. Favorited by Nicole Ritchie, Lindsay Lohan, Jessica Simpson, and Christina Milian.
  • Anthousa Diffuser - Barneys, $90 - Diffusers are the latest in home fragrance. Not only does it smell nice, but it also looks great on your bureau or in your bathroom.
  • Pinkberry Gift Certificate, $5 and up - Spread the Pink Berry craze this holiday season. This is a guiltless dessert and the perfect little something for the health conscious (and these days, who isn't?).
  • Clarisonic skincare brush, Sephora, $195 - For those with a larger budget - this is skincare technology thats safe and natural. It can go in the shower and cleans deeper than a cotton pad or your fingers could ever do. It's gentle exfoliation every day, giving you brighter and more radiant skin. I want it for myself!
  • Fusion Perfect Pout, Sephora, $29 - Forget collogen. Fusion can give lips a more fuller apperance but minus the needles.
  • US Weekly Gift Subscription, Mags4Cheap, $49.40 - Let's face it, we get a kick out of celebrity gossip. Next cover story? Nicole Ritchie driving on the wrong side of the highway. Classic.
  • Primp thermal, Shopbop $82 - Warm and cozy make the perfect gifts.

I'd love to hear your gift giving ideas. E-mail me at styleminded@gmail.com!

Stockings

Just in time for the holidays. I like stockings - ones with goodies stuffed inside and ones you slip on. It can get pretty darn chilly in Los Angeles, so while your body is wearing that cute dress, your legs should be wearing something too. What better to cover them with than tights? I have all sorts -- sheer black, sheer brown and patterned, solid argyled wool and ankle tights. So far, I've stuck to mostly neutral colors. I'm still a Bostonian at heart so I haven't grown the courage to wear brightly colored tights - even though I see others pull it off really well.

Today, I wore my Rachel Pally charcoal scoop bubble dress with a pair of black tights and satin ballerina flats. :)

Rachel Pally Sample Sale

As many of you know, I am a nut for Rachel Pally. I adore the simplicity of her line, the comfort, the cut, and the versatility. So, you can imagine how excited I was to finally be able to shop her sample sale. The popularity of her line had grown so much that she moved the location of the sale to a warehouse. I was even more stoked to meet Rachel Pally herself! I might have been a little too excited - because I took home 4 dresses, 2 tops, and a pair of leggings. Yikes!

Adds to my collection:
  • charcoal heather scoop bubble dress (i've been looking for a dress like this forever! i love this one)
  • cherry caftan top (I was bummed the dress didn't flatter me)
  • ruby keyhole turtleneck top
  • cream/black geometric pocket dress
  • bungee/black fishtank turtleneck sheath
  • midnight blue wrap dress
  • black cropped leggings
