Revolve Clothing Grand Opening Party

Revolve Clothing opened their first store on Melrose Avenue on August 21st. Read here for the scoop from the LA Times.

Fashion Friend calls to invite me to a sneak preview. He thinks that the open bar will entice me. Little does he know he sold me when he first spoke the words party and clothes in the same sentence. Although admittedly, I was very happy after 4 Melrose Lime-light cocktails (Absolut Acai/Pomegranate/Blueberry with Sprite and a splash of pineapple juice). Yum-my.

The store is a closet full of sophistication with pricetags ranging from a t-shirt at $59 to a leather jacket at $1500. And if you're a local, you can spy and order clothes online, then try them on at the store the next day. I could probably get used to that.

Back to the party, there were many-a-fashion-goer with an eye-catching heel. In the spirit of being incognito, I refrained from taking pictures. However, as I am somewhat of a paparazzi by LA upbringing, I do regret not snapping pix of all the wonderful shoes trapsing around the store that night.

The LBD was a popular wardrobe choice of the night. As much as I love color, black never seems to fail because of its reputation to be sexy, smart, and slimming. Plus, you get more eyeballs to your 5" Jimmy Choo's or Christian Louboutin's. Sometimes your shoes deserve a little attention.

Overall, it was a good scene with a guest appearance by Gossip Girl, Kristen Bell or maybe better recognized as Veronica Mars or for her role in Forgetting Sarah Marshall.

ASOS.com

It's nice to have friends that scour the internet for you to find good shopping sites - like this UK based internet retailer asos.com, formerly known as AsSeenOnScreen. ASOS.com prides itself in offering celebrity fashions for less.

A girlfriend's recommendation led me to purchase this jersey chain top. Paid about $50. Got it in 6 days from the UK. Quality is good for the money. Conclusion? A+.

Getting High

At the moment, I feel the same way about high-waist jeans as I did skinny jeans the first time they were reintroduced. It took me about 3 tiers of skinny jeans to get to the cigarette style I know and love today – yes, the ones that are practically painted to my skin and take about 10 minutes to pull past my ankles. Sigh, the things we do for fashion.

Like skinny jeans, it takes a certain body type to pull off the high-waisted style. They look phenomenal on Kate Moss, but of course, she’s a twig. The mental transition from low risers to high risers is going to take some time. I mean, I haven’t had pants reach near my belly button in years! I have to try it on, wear it around, and see how I feel in it – then maybe reach a point where I’ll like it. Not all trends are for everyone – if it doesn’t work for me, no biggie. They’ll always be another fad to indulge in. Jbrand (left) began with skinnies, then came out with the wide-legs, and is now into the high-waist denim. Jbrand - being one of my more favorite denim designers. Available on Shop Bop.

Voom by Joy Han

I finally made it to the Voom boutique on Melrose this past weekend and fell in love so many times. One piece that particularly struck my heart was Voom's cap sleeved trench coat - not just because Eva Longoria looks hot in it but because it's utterly adorable on it's own. It's atypical of Joy Han's usual line of printed silk frocks - which in my mind is like signature Voom but I am happy to see her line get more flavorful - more creativity to love and admire.

You can find the cap sleeved trench coat on Harmony Lane or Shop Intuition.

My other Voom favorites? Definitely the kimono and tube dress. Katherine Heigl modeled, quite beautifully, on the red carpet the kimono dress back in September for Janet Jackson's cd launch party at Tao.

Voom by Joy Han, as worn by: Jessica Alba, Eva Longoria, Paris Hilton, Nicky Hilton, Eve, Shannon Elizabeth, Ghuliana Di Pandi, Avril Lavigne, Jennifer Love Hewitt, Kristen Bell

In Love...with Chanel, that is.

And so fitting that love is red. We have classic, quilted, chain, and big - all the ingredients of a steamy relationship. I like the original size but as the mantra goes, bigger is better. Isn't that right?

Studio Nail Spa

It was hard enough finding the right hair stylist, aesthetician, nail salon, etc in Boston. So, as you can imagine, I dreaded the arduous process of finding the aforementioned in a city such as LA, which is 10 times the size. Citysearch and LA.com can only do so much. It's trial and error and word of mouth that help to reveal the secrets.

Personally, I can pass on the posh salons that charge ridiculous prices for novelties such as bottled water or champagne while you wait for an eyebrow wax. Nice but... I hate feeling like I have to dress up and put a face on before going to a salon. It's an oximoron to me. I don't mind doing the Beverly Hills every so often with a girlfriend but the occasion would have to call for it.

I try to get my nails done about twice a month and I drove up and down Ventura blvd for awhile trying to find that salon. I came across Studio Nail Spa. Clean is important and this place looked clean and fairly busy so I decided to give it a shot. It was a very good first impression. Three months and 6 visits later and I still have no regrets!

My favorite is the hand and foot massage. Susan, the nail technician I see, is so attentive and she spends at least 10 minutes massaging your hands and feet. Your hands get the hot lotion treatment, which is absolutely divine.

I've been to a few nail salons since - not by choice - but because of time constraints and none have surpassed Studio Nail Spa.

The Salon itself isn't particularly fancy but it's equipped with everything necessary. The spa chairs are fairly new and operate well. I want to say there are about 8 or 9 of them so you never really have to wait long if you're doing both the hands and feet, although I do recommend making an appointment anyways because really - who likes to wait at all.

Studio Nail Spa

Sun, 10:00 am - 5:00 pm

Ample parking behind.

Celeb Sighting:
I was in getting my nails done this weekend and to my surprise, I see Ashlee Simpson and her entourage getting their nails all colored up - most likely getting glammed for a pre-grammys party!

Ashlee's Outfit:
Of course I had to steal a glance at her outfit. She was wearing a blue headband and grey v-neck sweater. I need a bag and jean ID but maybe you guys can help to fill in the blanks.

The bag was a beautiful brown tote, short handles, large and shaped like the YSL muse. It was textured, almost like a Kroell.

Her jeans were a dark blue skinny. The defining characteristic? The yellow V's/zig-zags emblazoned to the back pockets. They weren't Seven jeans though. Hmm...

Any Ideas?

Remember these?

Remember when Jess was strutting her stuff around NY in these 4"+ heels?

Once $775, you can now get the Michael Kors McGraw boots for $299 in this camel suede duo (pictured left) on Intermix online.

If you want her same exact shade in leather, you can call your local Neiman Marcus store. A girlfriend of mine snagged her's at Neimans for $350.

There's nothing like a pair of tall boots - good ammo for any outfit.

Louis, Marc, Stephen

Everyone knows that I love big totes. I hate that you lose everything in them but it seems that I never have enough hands - especially in the mornings when you're trying to multi-task. For example, flip-flops under you arm for after work, bag on your arm, redbull in hand, trash in the other....all while you're fumbling for your keys to lock the door and get into your car.

They say three's a charm. You have 1) the Stephen bag, designed by 2) Marc Jacobs for 3) Louis Vuitton. And indeed, the combination is quite the ménage à trois. A girlfriend of mine has been eyeing this bag for awhile and I don't blame her. It's like a high-powered stam bag and that description barely does it much justice. It's very city girl and utilitarian with it's messenger bag type functionality. The shoulder strap to my Balenciaga motorcycle which I once thought was just a pretty accessory has proven very useful.
And of course, Jessica Simpson seen toting it around doesn't hurt it's image much either - since she seems to wear everything so well!

Grey's @ the SAG

I love Grey's Anatomy - on screen and off! The cast including Kate Walsh, TJ Wright, Katherine Heigl, Patrick Dempsy, Sandra Oh, and Ellen Pompeo looked so glam on the red carpet.

Grey's Anatomy took away from the SAG awards:
  • Outstanding cast in a TV drama
  • Outstanding actress in a TV drama, won by Chandra Wilson (Miranda Bailey)
Kate Walsh looked the most stunning. Her hair and lips just contrasted so well with her chiffon Kevan Hall sheath (yellow is, by the way, the color for Spring). Heigl was a close runner up, looking absolutely vixen in red.

And slightly off topic, I have to add that Tony Parker and soon to be Eva Longoria-Parker (in lovely Vera Wang) are going to be the hottest married couple in Hollywood. They look so in love and are just physically - super gorgeous. I feel optimistic about this union. What do you think? =)

Chloe Paddington Boots

After what seemed like weeks of waiting, I finally got my Chloe Paddington boots. When I found out the boots were getting seriously discounted, I quickly called my sales person at Saks Fifth Avenue to track them down for me. A few days later, she called with good news. There was a return in my size!

I saved 60%! Regular price of these babies --- $1,155.

Pictured left, the Chloe Paddington boots, as favorited by the lovely Sarah Michelle Geller.

Rachel Bilson @ Social

Headed out to Social Nightclub in Hollywood on the Wednesday before New Years and guess who I bumped into? -- the super cute, Rachel Bilson. Her voice caught my attention and let me tell you, Rachel looks so great in person - unlike some celebs who just get photoshopped in magazine pictures to look somewhat decent.

[Pictured left: Rachel Bilson @ Social Nightclub 12/27/06]

I also caught a glimpse of Kirsten Dunst. As I was leaving, the paparazzi were busy taking pictures of Ashlee Simpson entering the venue! I was told Jessica was with her......but sadly, I didn't get a chance to see her. Next time.

Only in LA.... =)

Celebrity Regulars: Lindsay Lohan, Harry Morton, Leonardo DiCaprio, Jessica Simpson, Lance Armstrong and Jessica Biel

Stockings

Just in time for the holidays. I like stockings - ones with goodies stuffed inside and ones you slip on. It can get pretty darn chilly in Los Angeles, so while your body is wearing that cute dress, your legs should be wearing something too. What better to cover them with than tights? I have all sorts -- sheer black, sheer brown and patterned, solid argyled wool and ankle tights. So far, I've stuck to mostly neutral colors. I'm still a Bostonian at heart so I haven't grown the courage to wear brightly colored tights - even though I see others pull it off really well.

Today, I wore my Rachel Pally charcoal scoop bubble dress with a pair of black tights and satin ballerina flats. :)

jimmy choo IT bags

One day, I'll be able to add Jimmy Choo to my collection but maybe with a pair of shoes to start. Celebrities love to tote Jimmy Choo and justifiably so because the bags are so damn tote worthy. You have the Ramona on Jessica's arm - which is the patent leather bucket bag ($1,450) on Saks Fifth Avenue, pictured right. On the left, not sure what her name is but it's a shiny calf/suede bag ($1,895) also available on Saks Fifth Avenue. When will "one day" come around? I want!

Chloe v.s. Dolce Vita

Check out Sienna Miller. She was recently spotted in London in her high heel boots again. I know why she loves them so much. They're just gorgeous. Ahh, if only I had pockets deep enough to afford these Chloe Silverados. If you do, by all means check out them out at Net-A-Porter but they're almost all sold out - even at $1,155!

Or a more attractive option - for $250 - $280, you can go with either the Dolce Vita double-buckle platform or multi-buckle platform.

Talk about splurge versus steal & both equally cute. =)

Rachel Zoe's Winter '06 Style Guide

Rachel Zoe is rumored to have lost Nicole Ritchie as her client but that doesn't make her less knowledgeable about what's hot. Here are my favorite looks from her Winter Style Guide, brought to you by Revolve Clothing.

Look 2
Tailored Hoodie with Pocket Dress
"
Dresses with pockets are so fun and flirty! I love the playfulness of this look and how easy it is to go from day to night with the change of a shoe. The cropped jacket is a great layering piece because it keeps you warm without overwhelming the outfit underneath. Try this over dresses or experiment with different lengths by throwing it on over a long top and trouser shape."

Look 5
Plaid Romper with Cropped Jacket
"I love this
romper because it offers such a casual way to be stylish and playful at the same time. Dress it up with a fun pair of wedges or keep it casual with flats. Don't hesitate to throw it on over tights and wear it with boots when the weather gets colder. This piece is as versatile as it is fun!"

Look 7
Silver Jacket with Black Jeans
"A good pair of jeans is a stylist's best friend. And I love how the season's black and gray denim trends give a girl so many more wardrobe options. With so much black in our winter closet, metallics are a great way to add contrast as with this Adam + Eve jacket with black piping."

Look 8
Mod Mini with Wedge Boots
"In a return to the fab energy of the swinging
60s, a mini tunic is perfect for the daring fashionista who wants to get noticed. I also love throwing it on over leggings for added comfort or over a pair of skinny jeans for daytime outings about town."

Look 10
The Little Black Dress with Jacket
This
bubble dress is such a sweet and youthful silhouette. The empire waist and pockets add a subtle twist to the little black dress. Cropped jackets are perfect for layering, and the geometric print on this Mint piece is simply standout. I love finishing a look with metallic accents such as these gold gems from Ashley Dearborn.

Boot ID?

Can anyone help me ID these boots (as worn by Lindsay Lohan, Nicole Richie and Elisha Cuthbert above)? Lindsay was just spotted wearing these boots a couple weeks ago while shopping at Barneys! Please share the wealth if you do. =)
